3.5.25 – 25.5.25
Exhibition opening 3pm Saturday 3 May 2025
Benny Chop has well and truly earned his nickname over decades of chopping bicycles, motorcycles and hot rods, tattooing skin, bashing drum skins in bands, cooking tacos and slinging cocktails, and fabrication and installation for Australia’s national museum and gallery collections.
NEVER PERFECT is a showcase of Benny’s finest work and an exhibition featuring artworks by his comrades, collaborators and freaky friends. This show will be wild. Benny’s medal winning shovelhead chopper and candy red Triumph will be accompanied with artworks and artefacts by Benny, plus paintings , prints and objects by some of the coolest cats on the eastern seaboard of Australia.
Benny’s day job is at the Australian War Memorial, where he works in the collections team fabricating mounts for forthcoming new displays. But he works through the night as well, tinkering on motorcycles in his garage, playing rock n roll in the King Hits, and helping out on his mate’s projects all around the ACT.
Benny’s professional experience includes OG Customs (Mittagong, NSW), JRs Welding and Fabrication (Wallaroo, NSW), Black Top Choppers (Denver, Colorado, USA) and Thylacine (Queanbeyan, NSW). He is a master craftsman, mad scientist and excellent illustrated gentleman with a heart of gold.
This is his first art exhibition as maker and curator. The Civic Art Bureau is thrilled to host this incredible show.
