Civic Art Bureau is thrilled to present Flip Out an Exhibition of Skateboard Art by Matt Green in the Art Bureau Window, co-inciding with Belco Bowl Jam, Feb 14-16 2025.
Matt Green is a Geelong born Melbourne based artist, painter, skateboarder and musician. Matt has been commissioned to do many album covers and band posters over the years, dating way back to fellow Geetroit rockers Magic Dirt’s first EP “Signs of Satanic Youth” in 1993. Matt Green is also an established exhibiting artist. His most recent solo show in 2024 birds eye views is an exploration of Australian landscape, birds, bark and barbed wire, part love song, part climate in crisis.
Back in the global pandemic lockdown year of 2021, friend and fellow skateboarder Duncan Ewington showed Matt’s art to FLIP owner Jeremy Fox who then approached Matt to do a six board series. As a life long skateboarder, it was a dream come true. The brief was simple. Anamorphic caricature depictions of FLIP’s pro riders. Myths, homelands and personality traits were the main focus of these works. Graphics were painted for skateboard legends Tom Penny and Rune Glifberg amongst others. The series was released internationally by FLIP in September 2022.
